Look at her pose; shoulders slackened downward but pulled taughtly back. See the way her right hand rests on the bed. It’s subtle but you can see that she’s supporting much of her upper body weight on this point, not just at her most natural center of gravity. She’s pensive, unsure of her position although she convincingly portrays herself as master of all within her reach.
This is what classical illustration is all about. Ensuring those elements are in place; whether working from a live model or pure imagination, to convey a story.
